What is LAUNCH with Mentor Collective?

Leading the Advancement for Undergraduate Engagement for Careers in Health or LAUNCH with Mentor Collective enhances the student experience by linking them one-on-one with a peer mentor. Students are paired with someone invested in their success — a person ready to listen, inspire, help navigate challenges, and recognize opportunities. Students will learn what to expect in school, how to approach challenges, and gain career advice. At the same time, mentors will build their networks and develop skills to become better professionals and leaders.

How it Works

LAUNCH with Mentor Collective was established to mentor local pre-med and pre-health students by matching them with a medical student mentor from CUSM. Students will be matched with a peer mentor based on shared interests, background, academics, and professional aspirations. LAUNCH with Mentor Collective will support students pursuing health sciences careers and medicine. To get started, students and mentors register and complete an online survey to paint a holistic picture of their interests and experiences.

What do Mentors and Mentees Discuss?

  • How will my major impact my professional options?
  • How do I balance the demands of school, responsibilities, and socializing?
  • How can I set myself up for academic, social, and career success?
  • How do I make connections with peers and professional contacts?

Time Commitment

Mentors and mentees are encouraged to communicate at least 2-4 times monthly, although pairs can connect more or less frequently. Pairs can communicate in person, via text, Zoom, or phone. Please note that all participants are given anonymous phone numbers for communication.

Program Length

The program will begin in August 2021, with email invitations going out in July 2021 to CUSM medical students. Mentorship will begin after Mentor Collective has made a successful match as early as August or September 2021. Medical students will mentor during the academic year ending in May 2022 but can develop an ongoing mentorship with their mentee throughout the year or over multiple years.
