The Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE)

The Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) is a state regulatory agency within the California Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), established in January 1998. BPPE is responsible for approving and regulating private postsecondary and vocational institutes of education in California. BPPE was established to foster and improve the educational programs and services of these institutions while protecting the citizens of the state from fraudulent or substandard operations (California Education Code - 94705). In addition, BPPE mediates complaints between students and institutions and investigates schools as necessary. For more information regarding BPPE, its website can be reached at www.bppe.ca.gov.

With Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) accreditation, CUSM submitted a request in August 2023 to become exempt from laws and regulations of the BPPE pursuant to California Education Code Section 94874(i).

Subsequently, pursuant to CEC 94874.9, as an exempt institution, CUSM entered into a contract with BPPE for BPPE to review and act on complaints concerning the institution, in accordance with Section 600.9 of Title 34 of the Code of Federal Regulations. The agreement is valid through June 30, 2027, with the option to renew.
