Q: Is an MD student required to participate in a Scholars Program?

A: No. Scholars Programs are co-curricular and participation is optional.

Q: Can a student begin a Scholars Program in their M2 year?

A: Due to the intensity of each Scholars Program, it is strongly recommended that students join a program in their M1 year. However, joining a program in the first semester of year 2 is also allowed as long as it is approved by the program’s Faculty Lead(s).

Q: Can I complete some of the Scholars Program workload during the Professional Development Semester?

A: Yes. In fact, some of the programs have been structured to make use of the Professional Development Semester.

Q: What is the time commitment? What is the workload?

A: The programs are generally rigorous and require significant commitment to complete, including comprehensive educational modules, a practicum requirement of at least 30 hours, and a cumulative capstone project. However, time required varies by individual program. Students are encouraged to contact the program’s faculty lead(s) and attend the information sessions to get to know specifics.

Q: May a student participate in more than one Scholars Program?

A: No, students are only allowed to enroll in one program to enhance high-quality research. When a student determines their particular interest for residency, it is recommended they select a compatible area of focus to bolster their credentials.

Q: Can I finish my Scholars Program as a group project?

A: We highly recommend that you finish the Scholars Program, especially the Capstone Project, as an individual scholarly activity under the mentorship of the Faculty Lead(s). However, a group project is also allowed by the nature of topic and if approved by the Faculty Lead(s).
